INVITE A FRIEND

One of the greatest privileges we can have is introducing someone to Jesus. We do that by inviting others around us into our lives. Inviting them into our homes, inviting them to church, sharing our story with them and sharing God’s story—the Gospel.

The truth is that every person is on a spiritual journey. God is already at work in their lives. And…He wants to use YOU!

One of the ways that we get better at inviting others to know Jesus at Elevate Hope is by becoming a CoJourner. CoJourner comes from two words: “Journey” and “Co” or “Alongside.”

A CoJourner is someone who joins others in their spiritual journey to help them come to find life in Christ. There are four primary roles that we can play in another person’s spiritual journey: The Explorer, The Guide, The Builder, and the Mentor. The role you play at any given time depends upon your relationship and the place the other person is at in their spiritual journey.

So, be a CoJourner! Invite someone who doesn’t know Jesus into your life, into your home, or to join you at Elevate Hope today! It could change their life!

THE EXPLORER

An Explorer journeys into unknown territory to learn and to understand. Spiritually we play the role of the Explorer when we seek to understand where someone in our lives is at on their spiritual journey by being a good listener and by asking questions with genuine interest and concern.

This helps the Explorer discover where others have been in their spiritual journey, where they are now and where they are going.

THE GUIDE

A Guide is someone who shows someone the way on a journey. As we enter into the spiritual journey of others, we may get the privilege of showing them the way to Jesus.

We can guide people to Jesus by sharing our own story of how God has worked in our lives in meaningful ways, and by sharing God’s story—the Gospel.

THE BUILDER

When a person encounters an obstacle on a journey, they need a bridge to continue. Spiritually many people encounter obstacles that keep them from moving toward Christ, and they, too, need bridges to continue moving toward Him. Their obstacles may be intellectual, emotional, a past bad experience with the church, or a host of other objections.

The Builder builds bridges over the obstacles with prayer, and by coming alongside those who are stuck with understanding, encouragement, and gentle persuasion.

THE MENTOR

Spiritual journeys do not end when people come to Jesus. In fact, that is just the beginning!

Someone just starting out on a journey with Christ needs to be connected with a community of believers that will help them grow, and they need to learn key concepts and foundational truths of following Jesus for a lifetime.

A Mentor helps a person make connections and build a foundation. The Mentor encourages, guides and instructs the younger believer along the way.

Which of these 4 Roles is God asking you to play in the life of someone today…?

COJOURNERS RESOURCES

The central insight of CoJourners is understanding the roles (Explorer, Guide, Builder, and Mentor) we play in relating to others in their spiritual journeys. Assuming a role, we perceive what’s most appropriate, and that changes our methods entirely.

Passages: CoJourners Devotional provides biblical motivation and training for sharing Christ with friends as well as recent acquaintances. The daily meditations in God’s Word aid in breaking down walls and personal barriers to evangelism.
