Worship At Elevate Hope

Worship is the right, fitting and delightful response of moral beings to God the Creator, Redeemer and Consummator, for who He is as one eternal God in three persons—Father, Son and Holy Spirit—for what He has done in creation and redemption, and for what He will do in the coming consummation, to whom be all praise and glory, now and forever, world without end. Amen. (Jonathan Gibson, Reformation Worship, p. 2).

Since the beginning of time there has been worship—in heaven and on earth. The beginning of creation was the beginning of worship in heaven and on earth—by angelic beings, by the created order, and by the first couple of mankind (Gibson, Reformation Worship, p. 3).

Every Sunday when we transition from the Church scattered to the Church gathered, we come together for the purpose of worship as instructed in Colossians 3:16:

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

When we gather as Christians on Sunday, we join the great symphony of creation in worshiping God by glorifying Him for who He is and what He has done. This is what is taking place in heaven right now among the angels and the saints, and it is what the Church will do for all eternity. For this reason, worship is at the center of all that we do and all that we are; worship is what we were created for.

Worship is also where God has promised to meet His people through Christ. In worship we receive Jesus as He offers Himself to us in Word and sacrament. God speaks to us and we respond with songs of adoration and praise, with prayers of confession and intercession, and with offerings of thanksgiving. When we come together for worship, God gathers His people to shape our hearts and desires in order to conform us more and more into the image of His Son.

At Elevate Hope we believe that God has provided this giving-and-receiving pattern of worship in His Word, and so we structure our worship around this pattern where the Lord speaks and His people reply.

Sunday Playlist
